My name is Harriet/ Harri/ Hats- different names to different people. Normally I am a (just about to be)21 year old student of French at the University of Nottingham. Currently, I am on a year abroad in Valenciennes, France. In a few weeks I'll be moving to Beziers, in the very very south of France- near Montpellier for another 4 months.

My life is a mixture of different things and influences. I love travelling, in the past few months my friends and I have been to Amsterdam, Paris, Geneva, Brussels and some other random French and Belgium towns. I hope to visit my friends in the U.S this Christmas.

I like pretty things. Kurt Halsey. Exploding dog. Pop Art. Being a bit of a magpie, I like all things bright and glittery. I seem to hoard books and DVDs- at the moment my favourite novels are Me Talk Pretty by David Sedaris and The Corrections by Jonathon Franzen...

The opinions reflected in this journal can be quite strong. I'm stubborn and unsubtle. My friends call me indecisive, and it's true... sometimes, I think I want to please everybody else so much, that I forget what I want. I have taken to using the word 'ambivalent' recently. Not in hommage to Girl, Interrupted- just because it feels right.

I'm originally from London. For me, the city is amazing. So diverse. So full of life, love and acceptance. To others it's a dirty, smelly, overcrowded hell hole. Hmmm. I guess the city is in my blood.

I don't know why i chose the name ruby_sceptre... maybe it's coz i was in love with Ruby from Behind the scenes at the museum. Maybe not. I don't have answers. My forte is questions. And i question myself too much. I question my friends, I question life. I still have problems with trust, but then.. I am a work-in-progress. hehe.
